Quit Smoking

Stacy, D9585454, 3668

My father used to be a so called "chimney". In Chinese it means a person who smokes too much, and it made him cough a lot and his chest was aching all the time. He went to the hospital for a physical check up. Everything was ok, but the doctor suggested that he not smoke for his health's sake. So he began his quit smoking plan by jogging 5000m every day. That was a big task for a person who never runs. There is a tennis court in our neighborhood. It has about 800m of pavement around it. He began with 800m the first week, 1600m the second week, and so on. The first day of his plan he felt his feet were heavy and his breathing was hard all the way round. By the end of the second week, he felt no pain. In fact, he quite enjoyed jogging. He ran every day no matter what the weather was like. Gradually, 5000m was an easy target. A year later, he boasted that he was a born runner. We are all proud of him, and of course, he said bye-bye to cigarettes forever.
