My Little Angel

Some parents pick up their son at the baby-sitter’s:

Father: So, how’s my boy? Did he behave?

Mother: Oh, look at him. He looks like such a little angel when he is sleeping.

Baby-sitter: Don’t let that deceive you! He had a temper tantrum over another kid taking his toy. He stomped his feet and cried until he was red in the face. I tried offering him another toy, but that didn’t work. Then I tried scolding him, but that didn’t work. Finally, I had to bribe him with candy.

Mother: Hmm, sugar isn’t the best answer to behavior problems!

Baby-sitter: You’re right. He tended to get worse and worse as the evening went on. I was trying to bake some cookies, but he kept begging me for cookie dough or to read him a story. He seemed to think I was his slave. I couldn’t get anything done. He was being a real nuisance. It was driving me mad! I finally got my revenge when I put him to bed and closed the door while he cried himself to sleep.

Mother: Well, that was probably the best thing for him.

Father: (The father pulls $1000 NT bill out of his wallet to pay the baby-sitter.) I hope this hasn’t prejudiced you against looking after him again in the future. We have such a hard time finding baby-sitters.

Baby-sitter: Oh, not at all. I enjoy challenges. I look forward to taking care of him again.
